How to Prepare for Your DEXA Scan?

Preparing for a DEXA scan is simple and ensures accurate results. To help you get ready for your bone density test, please follow these guidelines.

Leave Jewelry at Home

For your safety and the accuracy of your scan, we ask that all patients leave their jewelry at home. Jewelry can interfere with the images, so it’s best to avoid wearing it during the test.

Recent Contrast Studies

If you have recently had a test that required barium or a contrast injection, please notify us. You must wait at least 10 days after a contrast study before scheduling your DEXA scan. This ensures that any contrast material does not interfere with the imaging results.

Unsure About Your Preparation?

If you have any questions or concerns about your preparation, please contact your referring doctor or your primary care physician. They can provide specific guidance tailored to your medical history and any recent tests you may have had.

If you are unsure about any part of this please contact your referring doctor or your primary care physician.
