Understanding MRI
What is MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that provides detailed images of the body’s internal structures. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use radiation. Instead, it relies on powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to generate high-resolution images, making it one of the safest and most effective imaging tools available.

Benefits of MRI
Why Choose MRI?
MRI technology allows physicians to diagnose and monitor a wide range of medical conditions with unmatched precision. This imaging method is frequently used for detecting:
- Central nervous system diseases
- Orthopedic injuries and joint disorders
- Stroke and brain abnormalities
- Cancer detection and pre-biopsy screenings
- Gynecological conditions
- Arterial stenosis and vascular diseases
By providing clear and detailed images, MRI scans help doctors make accurate diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans.

Advanced MRI Services
At IPMC, we offer two types of MRI to accommodate different patient needs.
High-Field MRI

Siemens Magnetom Avanto (1.5 Tesla)
The Siemens Magnetom Avanto is a high-field MRI scanner designed for superior image quality and patient comfort. Key features include:
- Shorter scanning times for a quicker and more comfortable experience
- Feet-first entry for most exams, keeping the head outside the machine
- Wider and shorter bore for reduced claustrophobia
- Whole-body coverage with minimal repositioning
This advanced technology ensures high-resolution images for accurate diagnosis while prioritizing patient comfort.
Open MRI

Siemens Magnetom Concerto (0.2 Tesla)
For patients who may feel uncomfortable in a traditional MRI machine, the Siemens Magnetom Concerto provides an open MRI experience. Features include:
- Unobstructed views on three sides, ideal for anxious or claustrophobic patients
- Accommodates children and larger patients with ease
- High-quality imaging for most MRI exams
While open MRI is effective for many diagnostic needs, certain specialized scans require high-field MRI technology. These include MRI TMJ, Breast MRI, Renal MRA, MRCP, and MRA of the abdominal aorta or legs.
